Vice-Chancellor Vacancy at Yobe State University


Yobe State University, situated in Damaturu, Yobe State, Nigeria, was established following a recommendation by the committee on educational development in Yobe State. The sub-committee on higher education emphasized the need for a university in the state.

In response to the National Universities Commission's (NUC) encouragement for state and private organizations to establish viable universities, and considering the growing demand for university education in the state, the government of Yobe State, led by Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim, established Bukar Abba Ibrahim University. A planning committee, chaired by Professor Muhammad Nur Alkali, was formed in January 2007 to oversee the university's setup.

Application are invited from qualified candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor.

Job Title: Vice-Chancellor 

Location: Damaturu, Yobe 

Description:

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer, responsible for academic, physical, and infrastructural development, staff and student welfare, and external relations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic and administrative leadership
  • Ensure high-level academic and moral discipline
  • Foster external relations and attract resources
  • Manage human and material resources effectively

Requirements:

  • Professor with 10+ years of teaching and research experience
  • Key administrative experience (Head, Dean, Provost, or Deputy VC)
  • Ability to attract research grants and funds
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • IT proficiency and commitment to ICT development

Age: Not more than 65 years old

Tenure: Single term of 5 years
