Job Summary
The Mechanical Rigger will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement, installation, and dismantling of heavy machinery and equipment within the cement plant. This role involves setting up rigging systems, operating lifting equipment, and supporting maintenance activities during plant shutdowns and scheduled servicing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and dismantle rigging equipment including pulleys, beams, clamps, bolts, and lifting accessories.
- Align, level, and securely anchor heavy machinery such as crushers, mills, and conveyor systems.
- Attach and secure loads properly for lifting and transportation using cranes and hoists.
- Inspect rigging tools and lifting equipment before and after operations to ensure safety.
- Carry out lifting and movement of plant components during maintenance activities.
- Assist with the erection and dismantling of scaffolding structures when required.
- Manoeuvre loads manually or with machinery while ensuring precision and safety.
- Work closely with fitters, technicians, and engineers during maintenance operations.
- Dismantle and reassemble machinery for servicing, repairs, or relocation.
- Ensure all tools and lifting equipment are properly maintained and stored.
- Communicate clearly with team members during lifting and rigging operations.
- Conduct post-operation inspections and report equipment faults.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by sectional heads.
Requirements
Education and Work Experience
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of ten (10) years relevant work experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of quality control methods and inspection instruments.
- Understanding of quality audit and testing processes within cement production.
- Knowledge of cement manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with ISO quality management systems.
- Knowledge of analytical and quantitative testing methods.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Technical competence and hands-on rigging expertise.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and basic software applications.
- Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
