Job Summary

The Lead, Security Governance & Program Management role is a critical position within MTN Nigeria’s cybersecurity structure. The successful candidate will be responsible for strengthening and maturing the organisation’s security governance framework, ensuring that cybersecurity policies, standards, and programs are fully aligned with regulatory requirements and MTN’s broader business objectives.

This role goes beyond documentation. It requires a hands-on leader who can drive governance initiatives, oversee enterprise-wide security programs, manage risk, and work closely with multiple stakeholders across the business. You will be expected to provide visibility into MTN’s security posture while ensuring continuous improvement in governance and compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities

Security Governance & Compliance

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce enterprise-wide security governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry frameworks such as ISO 27001, NDPR, PCI DSS, and other applicable standards.
  • Coordinate and manage internal and external security audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Track remediation of audit findings and ensure timely closure of compliance gaps.
  • Provide regular updates on security compliance posture to senior management.

Security Program Management

  • Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of key security programs and initiatives across MTN Nigeria.
  • Establish, maintain, and manage the enterprise Information Security Program roadmap.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver security projects on time, within scope, and in line with business priorities.
  • Implement performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of security initiatives.

Risk Management

  • Design and maintain the Information Security Risk Management framework.
  • Lead enterprise-wide security risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure identified risks are properly tracked, managed, and escalated where necessary.
  • Provide security risk advisory support to business units to enable informed decision-making.

Awareness, Training & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Drive organisation-wide cybersecurity awareness and training programs.
  • Engage key stakeholders across IT, Legal, Compliance, HR, and Operations to embed a strong security culture.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic reports to executive leadership and governance committees.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the primary liaison for governance-related matters within the Information Security function.
  • Provide leadership and direction to security governance teams and project streams.
  • Champion continuous improvement across governance, risk, and program management processes.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Master’s Degree is an added advantage.

Experience & Professional Background

  • Minimum of 3–7 years progressive experience in cybersecurity governance, risk, compliance (GRC), or program management.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and industry standards including ISO 27001, NIST CSF, NDPR, PCI DSS, and COBIT.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex security programs and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CISM, CISSP, CRISC, CGEIT, or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor are highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
