Responsibilities
The Farm Technical Officer serves as the field team leader, reporting directly to the Farm Supervisor. Key responsibilities include:
Field Leadership:Actively participate in and lead land preparation, planting, weeding, and fertilizer application. You will be responsible for the daily monitoring of crops for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
Labor Coordination:
Supervise groups of laborers, assigning daily tasks and ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and with high discipline.
Technical Training:
Train laborers on the correct techniques for planting, spraying, and harvesting to maintain the farm's high quality standards.
Machinery & Equipment Care:
Oversee the proper use, cleaning, and storage of farm tools and machinery, while assisting tractor operators during land preparation.
Rigorous Record-Keeping:
Maintain daily records of work activities, manpower deployment, and input usage (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides) in your assigned sections.
Safety Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to safety rules, including the use of protective gear, and ensure field hygiene is maintained at all times.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- OND, Technical Certificate, or SSCE with a very strong agricultural background.
- At least 2 years of practical, field-based experience in crop production or farm labor supervision. Specific experience with maize and cassava is highly desirable.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of farm tools, machinery, and the safe application of agrochemicals.
- Must be honest, disciplined, and able to motivate small groups of workers under demanding conditions.
- Readiness to work long hours during peak planting and harvesting seasons and live full-time on the farm.
Working Conditions & Welfare
- On-Site Requirement: This is a 100% on-site role. You are required to stay on the farm from Monday through Saturday each week.
- Accommodation: On-site accommodation and basic welfare facilities are provided by the company.
