Mission of the Role

The primary mission of this role is to ensure high availability of the MTN Nigeria Packet Data Network through effective operations, proactive and reactive maintenance of the Packet Core and network service infrastructure. The successful candidate will support MTN’s strategic objectives by maintaining optimal network performance, reliability, and service quality.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and provide insights on bandwidth usage, user application behavior, customer experience, and critical upgrades across the Mobile Data Network.
• Monitor adherence to defined processes and procedures to ensure compliance with best practices and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Coordinate the implementation of Mobile Data Network planning functions to meet quality benchmarks, key performance indicators (KPIs), and defined marketing and sales targets.
• Coordinate vendor-related emergency maintenance activities on the Mobile Data Network.
• Oversee constant tracking, monitoring, and resolution of faults on the Mobile and Fixed Data Networks.
• Ensure proper implementation of approved change requests and planned network work activities.
• Manage overall network performance, bandwidth utilization, and configuration in line with established KPIs.
• Stay informed about local telecommunications industry trends and developments, assessing their impact on MTN’s current and future business operations.
• Monitor performance statistics and generate weekly reports, as well as monthly and quarterly progress updates on Mobile Data Network projects.
• Support customer engagement and operations by collaborating with relevant units to develop contractual and technical documentation for Mobile Data projects.
• Ensure Mobile Data projects are implemented according to agreed plans, timelines, and strategic objectives.

Educational Qualifications

• First degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• UNIX Certification.
• Ericsson Certification or formal Ericsson technical training.
• Fluency in the English language.

Experience & Technical Requirements

• 3–7 years of relevant experience in a specialized network engineering role, working closely with cross-functional teams.
• Hands-on experience with Ericsson Evolved Packet Core (EPC), Switched and MPBN Networks, including relevant protocols, devices, and certifications.
• Experience working within a GSM environment, preferably in a high-level support role within the Core Network.
• Proven experience supporting a multi-vendor Mobile Data Network and enterprise environment.
• Strong knowledge of WAP Gateways (MSP), DNS, Radius (AAA), PCRF (SAPC), and HSS Service Nodes.
• Experience delivering complex and commercially sensitive Mobile Data Network projects such as technology evaluations, system integrations, and due diligence activities.
• Solid expertise in UNIX/Linux systems, SGSN/MME, GGSN/EPG/PGW/SGW, DPI/SACC, as well as relevant standards and technologies.
