About the DSSC Programme
The Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) is designed for professionals who already have valuable academic and technical qualifications. Successful applicants will be trained and commissioned as officers into specific corps of the Nigerian Army, depending on their area of specialization.
This recruitment is open to both civilians and serving military personnel who were sponsored to civil institutions by any of the Services of the Nigerian Armed Forces. General Entry Requirements
- You must be Nigerian citizens by birth.
- You must be between 20 and 32 years of age by 30 March 2026. Medical consultants may be up to 40 years old. Note: Age confirmation will be made through your National Identity Card(NIN)
- You must be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
- Good character is required and must be confirmed by at least two recognized referees.
- Applicants must have a minimum height of 1.68m for males and 1.65m for females.
- Applicants must not have any criminal record or ongoing disciplinary case.
- A minimum of Second Class Upper degree or HND Upper Credit from an accredited institution is required.
- NYSC discharge certificate or valid exemption certificate is mandatory.
- Applicants must present valid birth certificate or age declaration and state of origin certificate.
- All academic certificates (primary, secondary to tertiary institution) must be presented.
- Applicants must not have tattoos or belong to any cult, fraternity, or secret society.
Corps-Specific Qualifications
Nigerian Army Engineers
Applicants must possess degrees or HND Upper Credit in disciplines such as Quantity Survey, Architecture, Building Engineering, Estate Management, Survey/GIS, Geology, or Urban and Regional Planning. Registration with COREN or relevant professional bodies is required.
Nigerian Army Signals
Relevant qualifications include Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, GIS Engineering, Satellite Communication, and related ICT fields.
Nigerian Army Medical Corps
This includes Medical Consultants, Medical Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, and other health professionals. All applicants must be fully registered with their respective professional regulatory bodies and possess valid practicing licenses.
Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Applicants must hold degrees or HND Upper Credit in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automotive, Biomedical, Aircraft Maintenance, or related engineering disciplines, with COREN registration.
Nigerian Army Education Corps
Applicants must possess BSc (Ed), BA (Ed), or HND Upper Credit in Mathematics, Computer Science/ICT, or Library and Information Science, with evidence of professional registration.
Conditions of Service
- The DSSC engagement period is 15 years.
- DSSC officers may apply for conversion to Direct Regular Commission (DRC), which allows service up to 35 years.
- Officers will be on probation for the first 3 years.
- Successful officer cadets will be commissioned as Lieutenants, while Medical Consultants will be commissioned as Majors.
